Cradle of Humankind

Today, we went to the Cradle of Humankind.  It is a World Heritage site where humankind originated and where the first Hominid was found. Hominids are the ancestors of modern day humans that first emerged about 7 million years ago.

We learned about the earth's timeline. How the earth was created and how the continents were separated.  At first , heated gas escaped into space. Then, the atmosphere formed.  After, it took millions of years for the land masses to merge. And soon the earth was formed . Earth formed a super continent called Pangaea . Pangaea broke up into two different continents called Laurasia in the north and Gondwana in the south . Did you know that India was beside South Africa !!! After a little while later India moved up and smashed into Asia and formed the himalayans !!  Now, 65 million years later it looks like what it looks like now .

Challenge time
Can you see the modern day person?

We also learned about the Dodo bird, and the wooly mammoth and other creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago.

We also learned about bones, fossils, and the beginning of humankind. We also took a boat ride through what a cave would have looked like. There were a lot of interactive games which helped me learn more about the history of humankind.

Here are some pictures. Enjoy.
